Website redesign · Counselling

A warmer, clearer website for an established counselling practice.

Sussex Counselling & Coaching is Lisa Fogelman's private practice. She is a BACP-registered counsellor and therapeutic coach with over twelve years of experience, and she works with adults and young people, including a specialism in neurodiversity-affirming support. The brief was not more content. It was to give the content she already had a home that felt like her practice.

01 / Background

The client

Lisa already had an established website, and it did a lot of things right. It explained who she is, the difference between counselling and therapeutic coaching, the specialisms she works with, her neurodiversity experience, and the practical details people need before booking a first session.

So the starting point was a good one. All the substance was there. What the site needed was a clearer structure, a stronger first impression and a journey that made the most relevant information easy to reach.

The challenge

Everything sat at a similar visual weight, so the page felt dense and visitors had to read quite carefully to find the part that applied to them. Long blocks of text meant Lisa's specialist experience was easy to skim past rather than notice.

Lisa's photograph and her personal approach appeared some way down the page, which matters for a counselling practice where the decision to enquire is largely about whether someone feels comfortable. The route to making contact could also be clearer, and the older visual style did not quite reflect the care that goes into the service itself.

The approach

The redesign was about evolution rather than starting again. I kept Lisa's own words wherever they were already doing the job, then reorganised the site around the questions people actually arrive with: who does she help, what is the difference between counselling and coaching, what happens in the first session, and how much does it cost.

The look and feel was softened deliberately. Warmer photography, more generous spacing, calmer colours and larger type, so reading the site feels closer to the experience of talking to Lisa.

  • A much stronger opening hero that says what the practice offers straight away
  • Lisa's photograph and approach brought forward, early in the journey
  • Counselling and therapeutic coaching presented side by side and explained plainly
  • Dedicated space for specialisms, including neurodiversity-affirming support
  • Clearer trust signals, including BACP registration and DBS status
  • Testimonials, FAQs and practical information such as fees and cancellations
  • A single, obvious contact route with location details alongside it
"Jordon listened first and then built exactly what I needed. My website now explains my work far better than I ever managed to, and it is somewhere I am happy to send people."

03 / What changed

Clearer first impression

Visitors can see who Lisa helps and what she offers within the first screen, rather than reading their way to it.

More personal

Lisa's photograph, experience and approach come much earlier, which matters a lot when someone is deciding whether to make that first contact.

Easier to explore

Services, specialisms and practical information are broken into distinct sections, so people can go straight to the part that applies to them.

Specialisms given room

Neurodiversity-affirming counselling and coaching now has its own space instead of sitting inside a long paragraph.

Stronger enquiry journey

Contact options are visible throughout and the form sits alongside the practical details, so taking the first step feels natural rather than pushed.

Better on a phone

The structure was designed for smaller screens first, so the sections stay readable and the contact route stays within reach.

A more considered look

Photography, typography, spacing and a softer palette were chosen to reflect the calm, careful nature of the practice.

04 / The outcome

The finished site gives Lisa a much clearer and more professional home for her practice. Visitors can understand her approach, explore the areas she supports and find the information they need without feeling overwhelmed.

It is also a better foundation to build on. The clearer page structure and proper headings give search engines something sensible to read, new specialisms or articles can be added without the page becoming crowded, and the single enquiry route makes it possible to see what is actually working later on.
